I worked with Sebastian on preparing for my most intense and powerful role to date (Pickup). What I loved most about this experience and every time I work with him, is his attention to details. He has a way to make me think about the work in a way that is so specific, physical and truthful. Sebastian was a professional dancer as well as a Meisner trained actor which to me meant that we spoke the same language.
As an actor who already has a decades worth of training, I believe it’s important to find someone to work with to keep my skills sharp and competitive without breaking the bank. Sebastian is that person for me. His coaching deepens my work and takes it to another level.
The benefit of coaching with a screenwriter is that their script analysis insights are coming from the storyteller's perspective, which, I believe, is what we actors should strive to be in service of at all times. And Sebastian is one smart-cookie storyteller. Because of him, I will now be more grounded, imaginative, & spontaneous, and thus, have a lot more fun, on set.
His guidance, insights, and how-else-to-look-at-it approach made the filming of "Confabulation" the delightful success it was for me. Everyone, coach with him, IF you can catch him in between his directing, writing, acting, teaching at Pace, and producing gigs, that is.
Having studied with Sebastian for the past three years, it is almost difficult to find a place to start my praises. He's not only a coach/professor, but a life-long mentor and friend.
Sebastian creates an atmosphere of friendly confidence in class. When you're learning from him. you're completely aware of both his knowledge and his personal talent. He sets clear rules and standards in day one that are still evident in day 101, while still creating a safe and creative environment.
His amazing respect for the 'craft' is contagious. There is no spoon feeding here. He asks the questions that force you to think, guiding you to discover the character on your own, which is so valuable.
Sebastian is not only a great acting coach but a genuine person, sometimes that's just enough. Anyone would be lucky to have him as a coach, professor, or as a friend.
Seb has been the greatest acting teacher I have ever had. Within a year I had learned more about myself as an actor and about being truthful in my delivery than I could have ever hoped for. He is always there to support you and won't tear you down about your performance, which makes it very easy to trust him and let him guide you in the right direction with whatever you may be working on.
Don’t get me wrong, he definitely gives more than enough tough love and constructive criticism that you can walk away with a ton to work on, but you never end up feeling horrible about yourself or your craft. I’ve never felt afraid to fail and then get back up and try again, because he creates such a safe environment that you don’t need to worry about being judged or put down. I honestly couldn’t say enough great things about Seb!
